Live updates from the Stadium of Light as Sunderland take on Liverpool.
Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris on the defeat: “We felt the quality really clearly. They were composed. Even in the second balls, it was tight. They have this ability to combine, to secure the first touch and to combine in tight spaces, so they were good.
“When you are not really close to them, you can’t regain possession – this was our speech during the half-time. If you fix this problem, you’ll have another one to manage.
“We tried, even with the ball. I think we showed composure and bravery, but it wasn’t enough. We had three or four opportunities, but probably we were not accurate enough.
“This last pass, the last touch and the final decision, today it wasn’t so clean. It is what it is: I repeat, four days after Arsenal, we had to go again against a monster. We showed a great character, a great identity, but it wasn’t enough.”
Slot on Endo’s injury: “His injury doesn’t look good. I expect him, unfortunately, to be out for quite a long time again.
“But what a mentality for him that things really don’t look good and he defends one more set piece.”
Arne Slot: “Almost all the things we had to do, we did really well.
“We had to defend a lot of long balls.
“The only thing I can be not so positive about is if you create so many chances, you should score more.
“But one goal was enough today because we defended really well.”
Virgil van Dijk speaking to TNT Sports: “Great win. Hard work on a very interesting, difficult pitch but pleased with the three points.
Tough conditions? “Yeah, I think that’s the least you can say about it.
“I think Ibou was outstanding, Macca in front, Joe who came on. Everyone put a shift in.
“Proud of the guys, they worked so hard for this today and it’s great to see.”
A huge win for Liverpool in their quest for Champions League football.
Virgil van Dijk’s goal is enough to end Sunderland’s unbeaten home league record.
A boring first half was followed by a very scrappy second one.
By no means a classic but Arne Slot and Liverpool won’t be bothered about that.
They stay in sixth though close the gap on fourth-placed Manchester United to three points while Sunderland stay 11th.

Mukiele’s wild effort is blasted into the stand behind the goal.
The Frenchman had done well to get into shooting position but couldn’t keep his composure.
Second change of the night for Arne Slot.

A good spell for Sunderland as they seek an equaliser.
Konate made a vital tackle as Brobbey looked to find the back of the net.
The attack was kept alive but Hume’s header from the following cross is off target.
A chance for Liverpool to add to their lead.
Salah’s shot deflected into the path of Ekitike, but his looping shot goes just over.
Some concern around the Stadium of Light.
Endo had needed treatment on the pitch for a while and has been stretchered off now by the medics.
The last thing Arne Slot will have wanted right now.
Joe Gomez is on for Liverpool in place of Wataru Endo.
The Liverpool fans are in fine voice and signing for the Japan international.
He has filled in well at right back tonight, keeping debutant Angulo quiet.
Virgil van Dijk breaks the deadlock!
Liverpool score from their umpteenth corner of the night!
The Dutchman was free inside the six-yard box, managing to get on the end of Salah’s corner, with Habib Diarra unable to clear off the line

Both teams are back out and the referee blows his whistle for the second half.
Hopefully a more exciting half of football compared to the first!

One minute added on at the end of the first-half
