Deadline day is fast approaching, but business in the Premier League is far from over, with plenty of wheeling and dealing still to come in the final hours of the window.
Premier League clubs have already spent a reported £1.5bn on new talent this summer, with a significant portion of that coming from Chelsea, who have brought in 13 players. Those incomings are set to be matched by outgoings in the final days of the window, though.
Plenty of players still look set to move before the window closes on Friday evening. Many are expecting a Chelsea fire sale, while the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City are still working on adding new talent to their squads.
Here are ten players to keep an eye on as the market draws to a close…
Ivan Toney
The Brentford striker has long been linked with a move away from the club and with just a year remaining on his contract and having not played in either of the Bees’ first two games, it looked as though he could finally make his move before the window shuts. He may be set to stay in west London, though, as Chelsea have made a late approach alongside Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli.
Raheem Sterling
One of the members of Chelsea’s so-called ‘bomb squad’, populated by outcasts deemed surplus to requirements by Enzo Maresca and the club, Sterling has asked to leave and even had his shirt number reassigned to Pedro Neto. His destination remains unknown, however. Aston Villa are rumoured to be interested though his high wages are said to be a stumbling block, while Manchester United have emerged as a possibility for the 28-year-old winger in a move that could see Jadon Sancho head the other way.
Ben Chilwell
One of the last remaining members of the Chelsea squad which won the Champions League in 2021, Chilwell has also fallen out of favour under Maresca and looks set to depart. As with Sterling he could be used as part of a swap deal for Sancho, though the club may be willing to allow him to leave on loan in order to get him away from Cobham. There are a few roadblocks, though, in Chilwell’s £200,000/week wages and poor injury history.
Jadon Sancho
Sancho’s fallout with Erik ten Hag and subsequent exile from the Manchester United first team was among the biggest stories of last season. Despite having seemingly made up with his gaffer, though, Sancho has still failed to nail down a starting place since returning from his loan spell at Borussia Dortmund, with Chelsea emerging as a potential destination. United are reluctant to sell at a cut price, with Juventus, Bayern Munich, and Borussia Dortmund also apparently interested in his signature.
Victor Osimhen
After a difficult 2023/24 season, interest in Osimhen has still remained high. Chelsea had seemed the most likely destination, but doubt has been cast on a possible move with the Blues having instead turned to Ivan Toney. The player is keen to leave Napoli, particularly now that Romelu Lukaku is set to join up, and reportedly hopes to stay in Europe amid interest from Saudi Arabia.
Federico Chiesa
Reportedly available for just £12.7m, Juventus and Italy national team winger Federico Chiesa could become one of the bargains of the summer should a move to Liverpool materialise. Now in the last year of his contract and with Juventus keen to sell, the move would likely suit all parties involved.
Matheus Nunes
Atletico Madrid are returning to the Manchester City shop window as they look to bolster their squad, with reported interest in midfielder Matheus Nunes. The 26-year-old made 31 appearances last season, banking five assists from central midfield. Atletico are said to be interested in a loan-to-buy deal.
Kieran Trippier
Three years on from becoming a big addition under the new Newcastle ownership, Kieran Trippier is reportedly asking to leave the club with Everton emerging as a potential loan destination. He has tumbled down the pecking order at Newcastle in recent months having lost his starting spot to Tino Livramento. Eddie Howe has now publicly asked the player to stay, saying that he is “a massive part of our future,” and the situation will be one to watch.
Kingsley Coman
It has been a quieter window in Saudi Arabia than fans have become accustomed to in recent years, but reigning SPL champions Al Hilal are back and looking to poach Kingsley Coman from Bayern Munich. A transfer fee has been agreed between Bayern and Al Hilal, but everything will come down to the player’s decision.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Now 27, Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s career is in need of revitalisation. Having spent more than 400 days on the sidelines since 2020, he has struggled to find form in a heavily disrupted career. With Newcastle now interested in his services, he could look to make a fresh start and get his career back on track as he approaches what should be his prime playing years.
