The five highest paid managers in the world

Steven Gerrard’s move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq has reportedly made him one of the highest-paid managers in the world, but who are the others? Here is the list of the top five…

The Atletico Madrid boss is way out in front in the list of best paid managers in the world with a whopping £30m a year salary.

Simeone has been in charge of the club since 2011, and in that time has won two league titles, a Copa Del Rey, a Supercopa de Espana and two Europa League titles, while twice making the final of the Champions League.

Known for his unique brand of defensive football and often employing the dark arts to win matches, Simeone has become a legend of the club and has certainly been well rewarded for doing so.

Pep Guardiola

Arguably the best manager in the world, Pep Guardiola comes in at number two with a salary of £20m a year.

The Man City boss secured a historic treble last season, beating Arsenal to the Premier League while also getting past rivals Man Utd in the FA Cup before beating Inter Milan in the Champions League final to finally win it once again.

Pep’s time at Man City will go down as one of the all-time great managerial spells. The 52-year-old has won the Premier League five times with the club, including the past three, as well as a host of domestic cup honours.

Not far behind his Premier League rival, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp reportedly earns £16m a year at the club.

The German has been with the Reds since 2015, winning Liverpool their first ever Premier League title in the COVID-hit 2019/20 season having also won the Champions League with the club the season before.

Klopp would likely have taken home plenty more silverware had it not been for Man City’s domination, but already goes down as one of the best to ever manage the club.

Steven Gerrard

The former Aston Villa and Rangers boss is now said to have entered the top five list after taking the job at Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq, where he reportedly earns a hefty £15.2m a year.

Gerrard was sacked from Aston Villa last season following a dreadful run of form, but won the Scottish Premiership with Rangers ahead of the move to the Premier League.

He is one of a number of big names to head to the league this summer, with the former Liverpool captain also trying to attract the current one, Jordan Henderson, to his new club.

Massimiliano Allegri

Making up the list is Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri, who is said to take home more than £11m a year.

The Italian returned to the Old Lady in 2021 following a successful spell as the club’s manager between 2014 and 2019, when he won five Serie A titles and twice finished as the runner-up in the Champions League.

His second spell has proved to be more difficult having been handed a points deduction last season over the club’s transfer dealings. He faces a big task to rebuild the club to get back to their past glory.
