‘There’s still time’ – Arteta open to making more signings

Mikel Arteta has not ruled out Arsenal making further signings before the transfer window shuts.

The Gunners have already been very active in the market, bringing in Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber and Kai Havertz for more than £200m combined – including spending a huge £105m to sign Rice from West Ham.

But the Arsenal boss has hinted that the club may not be done in the window just yet.

“Let’s see, there’s a lot of time still in the market,” he said.

“We’ll have to see how things develop in the next couple of weeks and we’ll be alert.

“There’s still time to do things and there’s still time as well for exits obviously, so I’m sure things will move.”

Arsenal begin their pre-season tour of the USA with a game against the MLS All-Stars on Thursday.

The club are set to offload players before the window closes and following a significant transfer spend, with striker Folarin Balogun among those who could move on.

Arteta says Balogun will be involved for the Gunners during their pre-season tour and that a decision will be made on his future after he has seen him play.

And the Spaniard also spoke of his delight at being able to get in some of his top transfer targets so early in the window.

“I’m very pleased, obviously, as you can imagine,” Arteta said.

“We signed the players that we wanted, we signed them early and they seem to have started to adapt to the team really fast.

“And we have some time now to prepare and for them as well to have the best chance to express themselves in the right way, and to do that obviously they need to experience a few days of what’s it like at Arsenal.”
