A consortium led by a US billionaire has agreed a takeover of Everton, it has been announced.
The Friedkin Group is led by billionaire Dan Friedkin and also owns Serie A side Roma.
They were close to agreeing a deal to buy Everton a few months ago before pulling out but now looks set to buy a majority stake from current owner Farhad Moshiri.
“We are pleased to have reached an agreement to become custodians of this iconic football club,” the Friedkin Group said in a statement.
“We are focused on securing the necessary approvals to complete the transaction. We look forward to providing stability to the club and sharing our vision for its future, including the completion of the new Everton Stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.”
It had previously looked as though Crystal Palace part-owner John Textor was set to buy the club.
The Friedkin Group’s takeover is still is subject to regulatory approval, including from the Premier League, the Football Association and the Financial Conduct Authority, however.
