Mikel Arteta has reaffirmed his opinion on the prospect of the European Super League, as Arsenal stated that their position has not changed.
Arsenal joined Manchester United, Spurs, Manchester City and Chelsea in support of UEFA and that they will not partake in any kind of Super League.
Arsenal’s statement read as followed:
“We will continue to play in UEFA competitions and continue to work with fellow European clubs and the European Club Association (ECA).”
Mikel Arteta reiterated the point as he previewed Arsenal’s trip to Anfield in a top of the table clash in the Premier League.
“Very clear. Exactly the same. We remain in the same position. We love playing in the Champions League and we will continue to do so”, said Arteta.
“Football supporters and the passion they bring to the game is the main reason why this game belongs to them. To the players, they are the protagonists. They make this game so enjoyable.
“We have to look after them, and their opinion is very very important.”
Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool at Anfield last season was a pivotal moment in the title race, as Arteta’s side lost out to Manchester City by five points.
This week, Arteta celebrated four years in the Arsenal dugout. That anniversary could be enjoyed further if Arsenal beat Liverpool. The Gunners would then find themselves top of the Premier League at Christmas.
“It is always great to be in the highest position in the league, especially in this league. Will try to maintain that.”, said the Arsenal boss.
“Tomorrow we are going to have to play really well and compete, and be intelligent to manage the moments of the game as well.
“We still have not won enough important things. We want to be better, to be more successful. There is a lot of things we have achieved together in those four years but that is thanks to the people who have been on this journey together.”
