Sheffield United became the first side in English football history to concede five goals in four consecutive home games, across all competitions.
Arsenal compiled the misery already surrounding Chris Wilder’s team, as their goal difference reached -50 following the 6-0 defeat at the hands of the Gunners.
They could be on course to make more history, here are the sides with the worst goal difference tallies in Premier League history:
HUDDERSFIELD TOWN: -54 GD, 16 points, 20th place in 2018/19
A serious case of second-season syndrome hit home for Huddersfield Town in 2018/19. They survived the drop the previous season, gaining plenty of admirers along the way for their fight and solidarity whilst punching above their weight.
Yet conceding 76 goals across 38 games in their second Premier League campaign, they won just three times and finished rock bottom.
IPSWICH TOWN: -57 GD, 27 points, 22nd place in 1994/95
Back when there were 22 teams in the top flight, that only prolonged the pain of Ipswich Town fans during the 1994/95 season.
They did win seven games, but conceded the second-most amount of goals in a Premier League season [93]. A stat only topped by Swindon Town in 1993/94, reaching the landmark of 100 goals hitting their net, Ipswich finished bottom of the pile.
NORWICH CITY: -61 GD, 22 points, 20th place in 2021/22
Daniel Farke’s Norwich City received many plaudits in 2019/20 for their high-risk, pass and move football, despite being relegated that season. They bounced straight back by coasting the Championship in 2020/21, so were they better prepared the Premier League?
5 wins. 23 goals scored. 84 goals conceded. They finished bottom and haven’t returned to the top flight since.
DERBY COUNTY: -69 GD, 11 points, 20th place in 2007/08
The worst points tally in Premier League history. Everyone remembers the Derby team of 2007/08 for being the worst to grace the top flight. Fighting spirit and hard-work didn’t stand the test of an era led by Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Didier Drogba and co.
An astounding one solitary win in the league, they conceded 89 times and scored 20 in a disastrous season that saw them end, unsurprisingly, bottom.

Given the experience of past Premier League seasons in the squad and even changing manager to bring Chris Wilder back from the wilderness, they are in danger of having one of the most embarrassing seasons ever seen in the top flight.
