Scotland captain Andy Robertson says his side would not be at the World Cup if they did not believe in themselves.

“We believe in ourselves, we wouldn’t be here if we didn’t,” said Robertson.

“We had to believe at times in the qualifying campaign when people didn’t think we could it.

“This squad is full of belief, we know we’ve got a tough game tomorrow, we’re playing one of the best in the world, but we also believe if we perform to our maximum that we can make it difficult for anyone, and I think we’ve proven that over the years.

“It’s up to us to be at our best and its up to us to do as the game plan says and if we can do that, then we get the point or the three points to make history.”

Mexico coach Javier Aguirre admitted that he is looking for a more confident display after feeling nervous in their first World Cup match against South Africa, and has said upcoming opponents South Korea should not be taken lightly.

“I’ve been in football for 50 years and I still get butterflies in my stomach before every single match. I get nervous.

“You have to walk your talk. Experience says that nothing is written in the World Cup. If you are the favourite team, it doesn’t matter.

“I mean, the weather is the weather, it could rain, or you could have a penalty, or you can have an injury-and that happens in the World Cup.

“I am very confident, and I’m trying to convey that confidence to them, but we must not forget that Korea is a strong team.”

“The Ivorian Football Federation has taken note of the various articles and information published on this Wednesday, June 17, 2026, concerning the Ivorian international Elye Wahi,” it said in a statement.

“To date, the FIF has not been officially notified of any judicial or administrative proceedings involving him.

“In this particularly delicate period, the FIF extends all its support to the player and reaffirms its confidence in him. Elye Wahi remains an important element of the Ivory Coast national team.

“The FIF also informs that the player will not be able to join the delegation’s trip to Canada. Indeed, the necessary administrative authorisations for his entry into Canadian territory could not be obtained at this stage.

“Elye Wahi will therefore remain in the United States pending the team’s return.”

Ivory Coast international Elye Wahi has been denied entry to Canada for his country’s World Cup group game against Germany on Saturday.

The Nice forward was reportedly arrested last month before the World Cup over alleged involvement in spot-fixing in Ligue 1.

Canada boss Jesse Marsch says star man Alphonso Davies will be available to face Qatar later after missing their opening game draw against Bosnia.

“He’s been in training this week, and he’ll be available [Thursday], and we’ll see how the match goes and then make a decision on how we would choose to use him,” Marsch said.

Every team has now played in the World Cup, with several sides playing their second game of the tournament tonight.

Harry Kane on putting himself into the golden boot mix early on in the tournament: “Obviously I saw the guys scoring their goals. I don’t like to concentrate on other people, but it is natural as a sportsman and athlete to want to reach the highest level.

“Those guys started in a great way. As a striker myself, I just want to get on the scoresheet as quickly as possible. In the back of my mind that competition helps me to push my levels. That is what the World Cup is for, to push myself at the highest level, so it is nice to get a couple.”

More reaction from goalscorer Jude Bellingham after last night’s win, on the criticism he has faced for England: “I know it’s part of being a footballer, I don’t hold a grudge about anyone that says bad things about me because sometimes I do deserve it and today, I think it was nice to try and show people and remind people what I’m about.”

In the clash between the other two teams in England’s group, Ghana scored a late winner to beat Panama 1-0 and move level on points with the Three Lions ahead of their clash next week.

Colombia, meanwhile, picked up a 3-1 win over Uzbekistan.

I missed more (England) camps than I would have liked and more games than I would have liked but I think I’ve always got something in me when it comes to this time and I’ll step up for my team-mates.”

England boss Thomas Tuchel praises his side’s second-half reaction after what he said was a “complicated” first half.

“I saw a statistic of 33% ground duels won in the first half and 73% in the second half so even off the ball, it felt we were not brave enough, not committed enough together and I loved the reaction of the players in the second half and the second half was excellent.”
