Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders has confirmed right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold will not be available to play the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Fulham tomorrow.
The defender sustained the knee injury in the Emirates FA Cup third round match against Arsenal where Liverpool prevailed as 2-0 winners and is set to be ruled out for around three weeks.
“Trent hyper-extended his knee during the last game so he has a little tear in the lateral ligament of his knee and he will need time to recover,” Ljinders said.
“He had a scan and he will be out for around three weeks, so let’s see after that.
“He will get some rest and then hopefully he can come back to where he was. Because this guy was decisive in all the games and was the one who created constantly for us from deep and gave the team a high level of flexibility. We will really miss him.”
The Liverpool vice-captain has has been in fine form of late, contributing several goals and assists and his injury comes at a bad time for the Reds with talisman Mo Salah also unavailable due to taking part in AFCON.
“Trent plays passes forwards and he knows how to decide games and knows where to put the balls but the squad has other qualities if you ask me.
“Alexis or Wataru in the No.6, we have to find different dynamics. If Jota is a striker or Nunez, it is different so we find solutions, but this squad has so much talent and power. We always say as long as counter pressing is there everything else can be replaced.”
