‘Difficult to accept’ – Pochettino ‘really disappointed’ after another Chelsea defeat

Mauricio Pochettino admits Chelsea’s latest defeat has left him feeling “really disappointed”.

The Blues were beaten 2-0 at Stamford Bridge by west London rivals Brentford as goals from Ethan Pinnock and Bryan Mbeumo handed Pochettino his fourth Premier League defeat of the season.

Chelsea were well on top in the first half but failed to convert any of their chances before being punished for their missed opportunities, and Pochettino admits his side have a lot to work on if they are to turn things around.

“It’s difficult, now, to accept the defeat because in the first half we played really well, dominated and created chances,” he said.

“We had the control. Brentford didn’t do what they planned and we were so, so good. But of course in the last third you need to score and be clinical.

“When that doesn’t happen, you need some luck maybe to score or the opponent to score an own goal.

“When you don’t score, after in the second half it was difficult because I think we conceded from the first chance and it was tough because it was difficult to break down the defensive block.

“I think we need to talk about many things. It’s about not only confidence, it’s about better decisions, too many things. Many factors that can have influence.

“I think we suffer this from the beginning of the season. I think we play well, the team dominated and create chances. It’s really disappointing.

“The frustration arrived to the team and we start to take not the right decisions and start to play rash. We didn’t have the calmness, to relax and say keep going and playing because we’re going to score.

“That was really disappointing because we were the better team, better side, but in the end we concede two goals.”
