Eddie Howe praises Newcastle crowd in emphatic Champions League win

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe spoke of the importance of the Geordie faithful as his side thrashed PSG 4-1 at St. James’ Park.

Newcastle swept aside the French champions on a famous night in the UEFA Champions League.

Goals from Miguel Almiron, Dan Burn, Sean Longstaff and Fabian Schar moved Newcastle top of Group F. Howe spoke of his delight in his players’ commitment.

“We are really pleased, it was a brilliant effort from the players. The commitment they made in a very very difficult game, it was like cat and mouse between the two teams. We were trying to press them and they were trying to play through us”, said Howe.

“We were successful a couple of times which lead to big goals for us, so I am delighted with the player’s commitment.”

“We made it as clear as we could to the players, we just wanted to be ourselves. We felt that when we played Milan away from home we were not quite where we needed to be. I think that was expected after having three defeats previous to that game.”

The Newcastle crowd created an amazing atmosphere from the moment the players walked out ontpo the pitch, with Howe confirming the fans played a huge part in the emphatic win.

“I think in every team talk I mention the crowd because they are so powerful. If we do not use the crowd, if we play a style of football that they are not going to get involved in the game then I think we are missing a trick.

“We try and use their energy to help the players. We also have players that suit that style.”
