‘He can be really exciting for us’ – Ange buoyed by Werner debut

Ange Postecoglou was encouraged by Timo Werner’s Tottenham debut as Spurs fought back twice to draw 2-2 to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Werner played for 80 minutes and looked confident and a threat on his first start, giving Spurs a new string to their bow in an attacking sense.

Postecoglou was pleased with his side’s all round performance.

“I thought it was an outstanding performance considering the job we had to put out a team today. I thought we were unlucky not to win today”, said the Spurs boss.

“Deki was so desperate to play. Skippy, Destiny, two or three others have struggled with it. Doesn’t matter though, these guys are not going to make excuses.

“Sessegnon had a slight niggle after last week but he should be back with us soon.”

Spurs are now three undefeated since their 4-2 loss to Brighton after Christmas. This point takes them to 40 points, and joint fourth with rivals Arsenal.

Postecoglou’s side have a 12 day break before they return to action in the FA Cup, as they host Manchester City.

Tottenham resume their Premier League campaign at the end of January when they host struggling Brentford. Ange praised his side, after a gruelling week disrupted by illness in the lead up to this fixture.

“If the boys can put a performance in like that then you are going to have growth because you’re not going to have it as hard as that in terms of a week preparing for a game”, said Postecoglou.

“Timo will enjoy playing here. He can be really exciting for us.”
