“It is where you want to be” – Ange eyes European return for Spurs

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou remains determined to lead Spurs back to European football, ahead of their clash with Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.

Spurs have not been involved in any European competition this season, after finishing eighth in the league in the last campaign.

Postecoglou has been watching all the European football on TV, which has given him and his Spurs side that extra incentive to be there next season.

“What do you reckon mate? Do you reckon I say let’s see what’s on tele tonight, the Champions League, yeah I’ll have a look at that. Yeah I do follow football a fair bit. No, I watched it all and European football
in general, it is where you want to be”, Postecoglou said

“You want to be involved in those games, you want your football club involved and not just because it is European football. It is the unique challenges it brings because you are playing in different countries, different conditions, different styles of football so all those kind of things you enjoy.

“It is definitely something this football club should be a part of, absolutely. Not being part of it this year has hurt us because it gives you a chance to develop your squad even quicker with the experiences they have and the ability to give more game time to your squad, so it has hurt us this year, but hopefully we are back in it next year and making an impact.”

The January transfer window is just around the corner, and despite Spurs’ attractive brand of football, they may find it tough to attract players to the Tottenham Hotspot Stadium without the pull of European football.

Spurs are also set to lose Pape Matar Sarr (Senegal) and Yves Bissouma (Mali) as the pair head out to the African Cup of Nations in the new year.

Postecoglou is aware of the problems that could cause for his squad, and is adamant Spurs must work extra hard to het through the early months of 2024.

“Yeah to a certain extent but the way we are squad wise at the moment, from that perspective it is probably a blessing for us”, said the Spurs boss.

“We have got a significant injury list at the moment and we will lose three players to international football so we’re going to have to work really hard to get through that period with our focus of trying to get back in European football.”
