Nunez and Salah face late fitness checks for Carabao Cup final says Lijnders

Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders says decisions over whether Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez can be involved in the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea are yet to be made.

Diogo Jota and Curtis Jones were struck with longer-term blows in last weekend’s win at Brentford, whilst Salah and Nunez picked up knocks which caused them to miss the midweek 4-1 win over Luton.

Lijnders gave an update on Salah and Nunez, and said: “Darwin and Mo we have to see. We have two more days and we will check if they are there. It would be great if they can be to be honest.”

Dominik Szoboszlai is also to be a late fitness check, having not featured since scoring against their cup final opponents, Chelsea, last month.

Alisson and Trent Alexander-Arnold are additional absentees but Liverpool’s injury problems have presented an opportunity for some of the club’s younger talents.

Conor Bradley and Jarell Quansah have been the stand-outs this season, whilst Bobby Clark, Jayden Danns and James McConnell got appearances off the bench against Luton.

Lijnders believes they can step up and show they can make their mark in the first team as well.

“We have a few injuries so we have young players, players who didn’t play five in a row, but they can show up and that is really cool,” he said.

“This season is a season we already created new teams, it’s a compliment to our squad and our academy.
