Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino says Christopher Nkunku will be out for a few weeks after the Frenchman suffered yet another injury.
The Chelsea manager confirmed the French forward will be unavailable for the west Londoners after suffering a fresh hamstring injury. The 26-year-old featured for the Blues in their 1-0 extra time Carabao Cup final defeat but is now set to be out for a the next couple of weeks.
When asked about the condition of his summer signing, Pochettino was sympathetic in what has been a tough season for Nknuku:
“He suffered a problem in his hamstring and then we will see in a few weeks if he is available. Now he is doing recovery from Sunday.
“Unlucky, bad luck because to suffer again another injury is tough for a player that didn’t play too much during the season and also came from the Bundesliga, from Germany, with some problems.
“He was so good in the preseason, and it’s a difficult season for him, difficult to accept another injury and to delay playing more consistently.
“I want to say bad luck because I don’t have the information or knowledge about medicine and cannot say why this type of injury happened. But I want to say bad luck because I have nothing else to say.”
Nkunku’s injury comes after a tiring last week for the Blues, where they were defeated 1-0 by Liverpool after extra time and scrapped a last minute 3-2 win over Championship side Leeds United in the FA Cup.
Pochettino reiterated the collective disappointed from his side after the final, and laid out his blueprints for the rest of the campaign, with another chance for silverware and a unlikely shot at Europe still up for grabs.
“We felt disappointed because we had faith to win, we were so close. After 90 minutes we were the better side.
“In the second-half, the team’s energy dropped and we didn’t keep the energy after 90 minutes and that’s when we lose the game.
“To win every single game [is a success] and be in the next final of the FA Cup. It would be great for another game at Wembley and start to win games in the Premier League – that is the objective and try to arrive close to a position near the top.”
