Salah, De Bruyne, Van Dijk and more – Premier League stars who are near the end of their contracts

In June 2025, the contracts of some of the biggest players in the Premier League expire, which will mean those individuals could leave their respective clubs on a free transfer.

Whilst clubs will be aware of their player’s contract situation, managerial changes could factor into whether these deals get extended, or not.

We look at some key players who have contracts expiring over the next year or so:

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 30th June 2025

Jurgen Klopp was asked on his stars futures here…

One of Liverpool’s best academy prodigies has just over a year left on his Liverpool contract. Jurgen Klopp confirmed he will be leaving Anfield at the end of the season, which has called into question whether some of his biggest stars will stay or follow him out.

At the age of 25, Alexander-Arnold has established himself as one of the best full-backs in the league, with the versatility to play in midfield. Whoever the new Liverpool boss is by the start of next season, they will surely be keen to hold onto a player of that quality, but could be tempted by a change of scenery?

Kevin de Bruyne – 30th June 2025

De Bruyne loves life with Pep

The 32 year-old has been at Manchester City since 2015, and is heading towards his 10th year at the club, which would give him the chance to play a testimonial. But will that be a farewell occasion?

The Belgium international’s contract runs down in June next year and he has already been linked to a move to Saudi Arabia this summer. De Bruyne has won everything there is to win at City, but will Pep Guardiola look to cash in before he is able to leave on a free, or will City extend the contract of one of their most key assets?

Mohamed Salah – 30th June 2025

Like other Liverpool players in a similar contract situation, the departure of Klopp adds another layer of complication. Whilst Mohamed Salah has made himself a club legend during his time at Anfield, he may have the option to leave on a free in June 2025.

Liverpool have previously turned down big offers for him, as recently as last summer when there was genuine worry that their Egyptian King could be lured to the Saudi Pro League. Will Salah follow Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino and leave for one last adventure, or see his career out on Merseyside?

Heung Min Son – 30th June 2025

Heung Min Son has been one of the most revolutionary players in Spurs’ recent history, but with his contract running out at the end of next season, Ange Postecoglou will be keen to tie the South Korean to another deal. Son is now 31, but has seldom been linked with a move away from north London. As Spurs look to bring European football back to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Son will be key into helping achieve that.

Spurs’ attack has many threats but Son is at the heart of it, and to lose him on a free in 2025 would be a big blow for Postecoglou. Surely Son won’t follow his former partner in crime Harry Kane and leave North London?

Virgil van Dijk – 30th June 2025

Virgil Van Dijk has been a rock at the back throughout his time at Anfield, but like Salah and Alexander-Arnold, his deal expires in June 2025. He is arguably Liverpool’s most important player, with his quality and experience proving vital in Liverpool’s quest for trophies.

The Dutchman is 32 now, but seems to be hitting a second peak of his powers. Whoever comes in at the helm in the summer will have a big decision to make about Van Dijk’s future.

Conor Gallagher – 30th June 2025

Pochettino loves him

Arguably Chelsea’s player of the season, Conor Gallager’s contract is running down, with the English midfielder already being linked to a move across London to Spurs. As an academy player, Chelsea will be keen to make a profit on him, and could be forced to sell him in the near future to help with their FFP/PRS situation.

Gallagher’s stock is still high and given he is English too, Chelsea will drive a hard bargain, but he could also staple himself as a key man for the future under Mauricio Pochettino by signing a new deal. His future will want to be decided sooner rather than later.

Jorginho – 30th June 2024

Jorginho only has months left on his Arsenal contract, and could leave on a free transfer this summer. He’s had his doubters but has proven a quality addition to Mikel Arteta’s team, starring in highlight wins over rivals Liverpool and Manchester City.

It’s widely known that he’s a very popular figure in the dressing room, so despite being 32-years-old, tying down an experienced pro to help guide the next generation could be shrewd business by Arsenal.

Anthony Martial – June 30th 2024

Anthony Martial has spent a lot of this season on the treatment table, and his deal expires at the end of the season. In his 21 appearances this season, he has scored two goals. With Rasmas Hojlund beginning to find goalscoring form, Antony Martial may finally be set to leave Old Trafford.

However, losing or letting him go on a free this summer would mean they would part with a player that initially cost them €60M. There have been rumours of a contract extension, but that has not come to fruition, yet. Erik ten Hag will have to come to a resolution soon, as Martial looks more and more likely that he will be heading for the exit door.
