Van de Ven targets Man Utd for his Spurs return

Micky Van de Ven has targeted Manchester United for his comeback from injury, as Tottenham travel to Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Dutch defender has been out of action since pulling a hamstring in Tottenham’s 4-1 defeat by Chelsea on November 6, but was back on the substitutes’ bench when Spurs beat Burnley in the FA Cup last Friday night.

The popular defender got a huge cheer from the home fans as he warmed up, and says he is fully fit again and aiming to be back in action for Tottenham’s game at Manchester United this weekend.

“I’m really happy to be back,” he said. “I’m feeling fit, I have no pain anymore, so I think I’m ready.

“It’s always a good feeling to be back with the squad and be on the bench. Next week a big game is coming so hopefully I’ll get some minutes over there.

Spurs went on a five-match winless streak when Van de Ven was injured and he admitted: “It was long, like 10 weeks I was out, and it’s frustrating when you have to watch from the sidelines.”

But Tottenham are still in fifth place, one point behind Manchester City and Arsenal, and with other players such as Rodrigo Bentancur returning from long-term injuries he says Spurs are in a good place: “It’s a really good time for the players to come back, it’s an important second half of the season ahead so hopefully everybody will stay fit, and we’ll see what will happen.”
