Liverpool fans will be hopeful that Jurgen Klopp’s send-off is the perfect one as the German looks to achieve his second Premier League title before departing the club in the summer.
Klopp’s side currently top the Premier League table, four points ahead of Manchester City and five above Arsenal but having played a game more than their title rivals.
But the Reds face some difficult fixtures between now and the end of the season in order to secure another league title. Fixture congestion will prove especially problematic, with Klopp’s side still in contention for four trophies.
The Carabao Cup final against Chelsea is first up this Saturday, before they resume duties in the FA Cup and the Europa League.
Liverpool’s first major hurdle in the Premier League is a mammoth game against City at Anfield on March 10. Results in the past between these two sides have often proved decisive in the title race and if Klopp’s side can come away with a win it would put them firmly in control. But it’s also worth noting that Liverpool have only beaten Chelsea out of the traditional big six this season.
Straight after that, it’s the Merseyside derby. With every passing setback for Everton, this game becomes harder for Liverpool, who will be taking on a side spurred on by the fear of relegation.
They then travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester United, who seem rejuvenated in the last few weeks. Their charge towards the top four has gained momentum in recent weeks and Erik ten Hag’s side will be looking for revenge after the 7-0 drubbing United suffered at Anfield last season.
At the start of May, Liverpool host Tottenham before heading to Villa Park. Tottenham pose a threat, but Aston Villa will perhaps be an even bigger test, with Arsenal and Manchester City having already lost away to Unai Emery’s side this season.
If Klopp can go one better and Liverpool keep their consistency up until then, a win at Villa Park on 11th May could put Liverpool within touching distance.
