WATCH: Klopp hoping defensive duo will be able to face Man City

Jurgen Klopp says he is hopeful that the defensive duo of Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez will be fit to face title rivals Manchester City on Sunday.

Both were substituted off in Liverpool’s 5-1 Europa League round of 16 first leg win over Sparta Prague, as a double from Darwin Nunez plus goals from Alexis Mac Allister, Luis Diaz and Dominik Szoboszlai put the Reds in a commanding position ahead of their second leg clash.

But Konate and Gomez were taken off in the second half, raising fears that they might miss the crucial top of the table Premier League meeting with Man City.

Klopp is hopeful that both will be able to be involved, however. “Ibou (Konate) said to me ‘if I do another sprint, it could be bad’,” the Liverpool boss explained.

“He should be fine but we don’t know.

“Joe Gomez is fine. We took him off, he’s played a lot of games so that was more or less rotation and a precaution. So let’s see with Ibou.”

Mo Salah also made his comeback from injury in the second half and looks set to be involved against Pep Guardiola’s side.
