Manchester United’s Rasmus Hojlund stated that the FC Copenhagen fans spurred their team to victory, as Erik ten Hag’s side fell to defeat in the Champions League.
Hojlund’s first half brace was not enough, as United were defeated 4-3, their third loss in four Champions League games so far in this campaign.
Marcus Rashford was sent off in an eventful evening in Denmark, as Manchester United let the lead go twice in the Danish capital.
Hojlund, who played for FC Copenhagen between 2020-2022 was complimentary about United’s performance despite defeat, but was aware of the impact the home fans can have, as the the hosts sucker punched Hojlund and his team mates.
“I think we started very well, to be honest. We controlled the game until the red card and that changed the match, of course”, said the United striker.
“If you do not have a look at the result, if you only take the [opening] 20 minutes into account, I think we did quite well.
“I think we switched off a little bit [after the red card]. We were playing a game with one man down, so of course, it was giving them belief and I know how the crowd can help the team here.”
“It gave them a big boost. We did quite good at the beginning of the second half, we were composed on the ball and we kept switching the game a lot, got the penalty and got in front again.
“So it’s unfortunate we are here, with the zero points from the game again.”
Manchester United boss ten Hag was left frustrated after the game, as his United side let a 3-2 lead slip late on in Denmark, to leave them bottom of the group.
“We controlled the game and with 10 (men), we kept the ball. But we are still disappointed and with me, I think all of the fans are very disappointed”, said the United boss.
